S 3122 COMBINATION OF WELDING PROCESSES
To execute a production weld (in accordance with a given welding procedure) more than one
process (each of which may be applied with different essential variables) may be used in
combination.
Each welding process with its associated ranges of essential variables must have undergone welding
procedure qualification either as part of the global procedure corresponding to the particular
production weld in question or in the context of other welding procedures. In the latter case these
welding procedures must comply with all the provisions contained in this section and in addition,
the parts of the welded joints of the test coupon to which reference will be made in respect to
equivalence are required to fulfil the complete series of tests which would normally be carried out if
each such part were regarded as a qualification welded joint for the application in isolation of the
welding process concerned. Reference to other qualifications envisaged in this second case must be
the subject of a previous request submitted to the Contractor.
